High-Performance Sealing for Extreme Operating Conditions

ChemResist Seals spring-energized PTFE seals are engineered for demanding sealing applications where conventional elastomeric seals may not provide the required combination of low friction, temperature resistance, pressure capability, chemical resistance, and long-term reliability.

Our spring-energized seals combine a high-performance PTFE or engineered polymer sealing jacket with a corrosion-resistant metal spring energizer. The spring maintains continuous sealing contact, while system pressure can further enhance the sealing force. This design makes spring-energized seals an excellent solution for challenging applications involving aggressive chemicals, extreme temperatures, high pressures, vacuum, and demanding dynamic motion.

Wide Temperature Capability

Depending on the selected sealing material and spring configuration, ChemResist seals can operate from approximately -200°C to +260°C (-328°F to +500°F).

Excellent Chemical Resistance

PTFE and high-performance polymer compounds provide excellent resistance to chemicals, corrosive fluids, solvents, gases and aggressive media.

Low Friction & Reduced Wear

The low-friction characteristics of PTFE-based sealing materials help minimize breakaway friction, running friction and wear, particularly in dynamic reciprocating and rotary applications.

Dry-Running Capability

Selected ChemResist seal materials can provide reliable sealing performance in applications where lubrication is limited or intermittent, subject to application conditions and material selection.

High-Pressure Performance

Standard designs can handle approximately 3,000 psi (210 bar), while special designs can be engineered for pressures up to 20,000 psi (1,380 bar).

Vacuum Sealing

The continuous loading provided by the spring energizer makes spring-energized PTFE seals suitable for a variety of vacuum and low-pressure sealing applications.

Spring energized seals are designed for demanding linear, reciprocating and static sealing applications. Their robust spring configuration provides continuous lip loading and is particularly suitable for applications requiring high chemical resistance, low friction and broad temperature capability.

Typical Operating Range

Pressure:
Up to approximately 20,000 psi (700 bar) depending on seal design, installation clearance, material and application conditions.
For applications above 3,000 psi (210 bar), application-specific engineering review is recommended. Pressure capability may be increased through appropriate seal geometry and controlled hardware clearances.

Linear Surface Speed:
Up to approximately 10 m/s (33 ft/s) depending on seal design and operating conditions.

Rotary Surface Speed: Up to approximately 6 m/s (20 ft/s) depending on seal configuration, shaft conditions and application parameters.

Temperature:
Approximately -200°C to +260°C (-328°F to +500°F) depending on the selected sealing material and spring configuration.
